Inova Loudoun Hospital Earns Second Nursing Magnet Recognition

Inova Loudoun Hospital has again attained Magnet® recognition as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program®. This voluntary credentialing program for hospitals recognizes excellence in nursing. This credential is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice. Inova Loudoun joins sister organizations Inova Fairfax and Inova Fair Oaks hospitals which have also attained Magnet status.

Notification of the designation came via a mid-morning conference call initiated by Patricia Reid Ponte, DNSc, RN, FAAN, chair of the ANCC Commission on Magnet Recognition. On hand to receive the news were members of ILH's Senior Administration led by CEO Randy Kelley and Chief Nursing Officer Lisa Dugan as well as ILH's management team, nursing leadership and staff. "To hold the distinction yet again demonstrates the outstanding level of nursing care afforded the residents of Loudoun County. We are proud to be a Magnet facility," commented Kelley.

New NGNA On-Line Continuing Education Course Offering Activity


The webinar Advancing NGNA Committee Leadership: Tools for Achieving Outcomes provides essential information, resources, guidance, and support to organization leaders enabling you to lead with confidence and satisfaction and to successfully achieve organization initiatives. The webinar recording lasts approximately 34 minutes. Participants who complete the activity will receive a 1.0 contact hours.

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Georgia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

The objectives of the webinar are:
  • Discuss the various role components of committee chairs/co-chairs.
  • Identify resources available to facilitate the successful implementation of committee charges.
  • Describe the process of planning committee activities, setting timelines, evaluating progress, communicating with their board liaison.

Institute of Medicine Future of Nursing Report

The Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) landmark report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health is driving The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action.  The Campaign for Action is organized by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in collaboration with AARP to ensure that all Americans have access to high quality, patient-centered care in a health care system where nurses contribute as essential partners in achieving success.

The Campaign for Action recognizes many organizations have been actively engaged in efforts to support the IOM recommendations and strives to keep connected with how organizations are moving recommendations forward.  The Campaign is committed to collecting and sharing best-practices as well as progress being made.  To do this, the Campaign encourages you to share:

  • Recommendations your organization is working on, how they are being supported, and any progress you have made.
  • If your organization has issued a public letter of support/endorsement
  • If your organization has made mention about the IOM report or Campaign in the press, your website, or public meeting/conferences.
  • Other ways your organization has supported the Campaign.
