Charlotte Radu, Gerontological Nurse of the Year

At the 2010 National Conference, the MD/DC Chapter ‘s Charlotte Radu, R.N. was recognized as the recipient of the Gerontological Nurse of the Year Award. The Excellence in Gerontological Nursing Award has been established to recognize excellence in individuals who provide care to older adults. The award is intended to honor a nurse who has consistently provided outstanding care to older adults and has been an inspirational role model and mentor to other healthcare workers.

The MD/DC Chapter held the annual Cynthia Steele Caring Hands Award Dinner in November. The award is designed to honor nursing assistants who strive to provide excellent, compassionate service to older adults and highlights the importance of the role of the nursing assistant across the continuum of care. The chapter is proud to announce this year’s winner, Pat Blanding (above center). Pat is a nursing assistant on the Acute Care for the Elderly unit of Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

Jean Gaines, Ph.D., R.N. and Elizabeth Tanner, Ph.D., R.N. were honored at the National Convention as the NGNA Board of Directors conferred Fellows status upon these accomplished and respected members of the Maryland/DC Chapter.

 

Student Scholarships
Chapter Awards Student Scholarships to Convention

In keeping with the chapter’s strategic initiatives to mentor nursing students, the MD/DC chapter awarded two scholarships to nursing students to attend the annual convention in Palm Springs, California. The recipients, Lindsay Harrelson and Hai Yen Ho, are students at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. Students can be seen in the photo above presenting a summary of the experience to geriatric interest group students. Hai Yen and Lindsey will present again at the chapter Board of Directors meeting and Christmas party in December.
