Certification Preparation Course (Day 1 of 2)

Faculty: Deborah M. Conley, MSN, APRN-CNS, GCNS-BC, FNGNA

Caring for the older adult takes compassionate nurses who have in-depth clinical skills and knowledge in gerontological nursing.  It is imperative for nurses to have competencies related to planning, managing and evaluating the health care needs of this growing and complex population.  Nurses work with individuals who range from the active older adult in the community to the frail older adult in acute and long-term care settings.  The primary challenge for the nurse is to identify and use the strengths of this population to assist these individuals in maximizing their independence and function.  This 2-day symposium provides best-practices in gerontological nursing and strategies on preparing for the certification exam, test taking and studying.  Mock exams, review of common geriatric health issues and resources for further study are included.

  • This two-day pre-conference will focus on selected geriatric health issues and provides registered nurses with classroom instruction and advanced practice Gerontological nursing expertise to prepare them to study for and take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) generalist Gerontological Nurse Certification exam.
  • Strategies to enhance test-taking skills will be emphasized.  A mock ANCC exam will be provided for ongoing study.
